Challenge 2, Day 50

No workout before work or at lunch today. For some reason, even though I went to bed early (for me at least) last night and woke up at 5 without assistance from my alarm clock, I did not drag my lazy butt out of bed for either a run or bike ride this morning. I didn't go during lunch either because a good friend of mine was starting work here in Little Rock today. Oh well....

I tried to get in a bike ride on Saturday for my cardio/HIIT but had issues with the trailer for pulling my son. I repaired the trailer Saturday night and went on a 14 mile bike ride on Sunday morning so at least I ended the weekend on a good note...

I forgot how much I enjoyed cycling. I think I want to start incorporating it more into my fitness plan. I really like the fact that I can go for an hour and a half bike ride and my heart rate was in my aerobic zone for almost an hour of that time. burn burn burn! I really like running but after about 3 miles, there is little I can do other than walking to keep my heart rate from going above my aerobic zone so I don't think I am getting much aerobic benefit from that activity.

Week 7 Summary

Monday - No workout (Labor Day/being lazy)
Tuesday - No workout (too short on time, had to run errands during lunch and had fantasy football draft after work)
Wednesday - HIIT on treadmill
Thursday - HIIT on Treadmill
Friday - 14 mile bike ride in AM, UBWO at lunch
Saturday - nada
Sunday - 14 mile bike ride

Ok, that's only one weight training session BUT 4 HIIT/cardio sessions which is promising....

I could have done a better job with my nutrition but on a good note, I did not eat fast food one time last week...

I am starting a review course in Dallas this weekend that will be on Friday, Saturday & Sunday for the next 4 weeks. I think I will modify my workout schedule because it will be hard to do weights on Fridays (I think). I am going to check at 24 hour fitness near where I am staying to see if there is some sort of pass that I can purchase for the weekends I am there. The schedule barring getting a membership will be:

Monday - Bike ride or run in AM, LBWO @ lunch
Tuesday - HIIT on treadmill @ lunch
Wednesday - Bike ride, run or Nordic Track in AM, UBWO @ lunch
Thursday - Bike ride in AM or HIIT on treadmill @ lunch
Friday - Run in AM before class
Sat - Run in AM before class
Sun - Nada/rest

Challenge 2, Day 47

Ok, week 7 of this challenge has less than stellar.

Monday was Labor Day and since I didn't get up to go workout first thing in the morning, I just never got around to it. Tuesday, I did not wake up to run before work and my schedule was too tight to to fit in either a workout at lunch on the way home from the office. Wednesday, I went ahead and did a HIIT workout on the treadmill since I think aerobic work more than weights. Thursday I did a HIIT on the treadmill as scheduled.

I got really motivated last night to ride my bike. I was going to take my son on a ride but he fell asleep before we could go so I got out of bed this morning at 5 am, got out on my bike about 15 minutes later and did a 14 mile ride in about an hour and fifteen minutes. I rode basically the same course as last Saturday but turned around earlier due to time constraints. I was feeling tired this morning but pushed myself to make it to the gym for an UBWO at lunch. I feel good after the fact but I'm still tired. I think part of my problem today is I should have gone to bed earlier last night and my blood sugar might have been low because I had not eaten very much this morning before my UBWO.

Now that we are past the worst part of the summer around here, I am starting to think more about riding my bike. I am thinking about trying to ride in the morning on my weight training days, maybe around 15 to 20 miles at least twice a week. The other day I will either run a short distance or workout on the Nordic Track. I think I want to start riding on Saturdays as my cardio session on that day. If I actually follow through on this, I could be riding upwards of 50 miles a week depending assuming optimum mileage (15 miles on the two weekday rides and 20 miles on the weekend ride). Well its just a thought for now....

Challenge 2, Day 41

Ok, I have done great this week.... I have worked out 6 times!! Yipiee!!!!

I did my UBWO on Wednesday; that went pretty good. Thursday I did a HIIT workout on the treadmill. I will admit I probably wasn't hitting my 10's but I think I was preoccupied with the hurricane stuff and the fact that we still haven't heard from my Aunt to had to ride out the storm at Charity hospital where she works. Friday I had a good LBWO, got a good burn on calves and abs.

Finally to top it off, I did a workout on a Saturday! Yipiee! First time in this challenge... I got out my bike this morning and rode 17.9 miles in 1 1/2 hours. I think that probably averages to just under 13 mph. Pretty good if I must say so myself since I haven't ridden my bike much since back in the early spring.

I use a GPS unit (a Garmin Geko 201 for you techno geeks out there) as a bike computer. One advantage is that you can map out your route afterwards. After I dump the files I down to my notebook, I use a site called gpsvisualizer.com (link) to create these simple maps like what you are hopefully seeing on the right.... Pretty cool eh?

This has been a pretty decent week as far as BFL goes. Since its the end of week 6, I will try to get some photos done tonight and do my measurements in the morning. I will try to get the photos up on the Tracker website by the end of the weekend.

I am hoping to see a decent drop in my body fat percentage based on the measurements but since I haven't been hitting the workout 6 times a week, I won't let myself be disappointed if it doesn't happen...
